Win a trip to Cartagena, Colombia from LAN Airlines [Ends 9/4/2014]

| August 18, 2014 More

Win a trip for two people to Cartagena, Colombia and enjoy three nights at a luxurious colonial hotel.

LAN AirlinesFor as long as I can remember, South America seemed FAR. Far from where I grew up (Poland), and far from where I moved to as an adult (USA). Perhaps that’s why I wanted to visit it. I would sometimes picture the world map in my head and see a little red dot – me – in a South American country. Would I ever make it there?

I finally did in 2013 – and not once, but twice. First, there was a trip way south to Uruguay and Argentina (the latter involved a flight on LAN Airlines), followed by volunteering in Ecuador a few months later.

On the way to Quito I had a four-hour layover in Bogota. How I wished I could go beyond the airport – eat arepa flatbreads, try dancing Colombian salsa, and see if español colombiano was as easy to understand for Spanish learners as I had been told… There was no time though, and Colombia has been next on my South American wish list ever since.

If you too have your eyes set on that part of the world, here’s your chance to travel for free. LAN Airlines is giving away a trip for two people to Cartagena.

OVERVIEW

Colombia’s fifth largest city is located on the Caribbean Coast and features a walled Old Town, which was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984. Besides colorful colonial architecture and a 16th century fort, Cartagena has beaches, diverse dining, and numerous nightlife options.

The winner and their guest will receive round-trip airfare from any city in the USA and three nights’ accommodation with breakfast. They will stay at Casa San Agustin, a luxurious small hotel located within Cartagena’s historic center. The restored property features white-washed walls, wood-beamed ceilings in guestrooms, and Caribbean-inspired décor.

  1. Cartagena is such a beautiful city. I remember the first time I went there and explored the walled city, it felt as if I was stepping back in time. And then there’s Playa Blanca; a pristine beach with clear blue waters. If I could I would definitely enter this sweepstake. You never know!

  2. too bad that flight is only form US :(

  3. we hear you on south america–for some reason, it’s never been a priority for us, but that is definitely changing! cross your fingers for us ;)

  4. I’ve never been to South America and have been envious of many who have such fab stories to tell about their trips. Cartagena would be a wonderful city to visit and this would be a great trip to win. Casa San Agustin looks like it’s just my style.

    • I think I’d enjoy Casa San Agustin too! Boutique hotels are my favorite kind, and the location seems just right. Good luck, Cathy – and in any case, I hope you check out South America soon. :)

I would love to visit South America – though narrowing down where exactly is a bit of a tough one! Sadly no prize for me as I’m UK-based but interesting to find out more about Colombia and Cartagena.

    • I’m with you on Cartagena! Previously I thought about visiting Bogota and Cali, now I’ve added this city to the list. I’m mostly intrigued by the walled city, it must be something special.

  6. Colombia is definitely on my radar. If I don’t win, I just might go myself.

  8. I’ve been to Cartagena but it was a very short visit. It was enough to make me want to go back, though! That’s why I entered this contest a long time ago. I’ve got my fingers crossed!

  9. I am in it to win it…. StayWinning, Craig

  10. Fingers crossed! Would love to get back to Colombia any day now!

  11. I am biased, I am 1/2 Colombian. My mother is from beautiful Cartagena de Indias. I LOVE IT THERE. :) The colors, the people, the food…the flavor of it all. No place like it. Cartagena is special. :)
