Win a trip for two people to Cartagena, Colombia and enjoy three nights at a luxurious colonial hotel.
For as long as I can remember, South America seemed FAR. Far from where I grew up (Poland), and far from where I moved to as an adult (USA). Perhaps that’s why I wanted to visit it. I would sometimes picture the world map in my head and see a little red dot – me – in a South American country. Would I ever make it there?
I finally did in 2013 – and not once, but twice. First, there was a trip way south to Uruguay and Argentina (the latter involved a flight on LAN Airlines), followed by volunteering in Ecuador a few months later.
On the way to Quito I had a four-hour layover in Bogota. How I wished I could go beyond the airport – eat arepa flatbreads, try dancing Colombian salsa, and see if español colombiano was as easy to understand for Spanish learners as I had been told… There was no time though, and Colombia has been next on my South American wish list ever since.
If you too have your eyes set on that part of the world, here’s your chance to travel for free. LAN Airlines is giving away a trip for two people to Cartagena.
Colombia’s fifth largest city is located on the Caribbean Coast and features a walled Old Town, which was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984. Besides colorful colonial architecture and a 16th century fort, Cartagena has beaches, diverse dining, and numerous nightlife options.
The winner and their guest will receive round-trip airfare from any city in the USA and three nights’ accommodation with breakfast. They will stay at Casa San Agustin, a luxurious small hotel located within Cartagena’s historic center. The restored property features white-washed walls, wood-beamed ceilings in guestrooms, and Caribbean-inspired décor.
